Nike air zoom pegasus 38 sizing11/13/2022 ![]() It’s got adequate ride comfort for daily winter runs and endurance sessions alike. The Pegasus 38 Shield’s well-rounded ride manners are versatile enough for many use cases. Off-road use will quickly clog the outsole, so you’re better served with a road-trail hybrid like the Pegasus Trail 3. The closely-spaced lugs also mean that the Pegasus 38 Shield is strictly a road shoe. Like any other rubber outsole, ice and snow-covered surfaces are to be avoided the Storm-Tread is of little use under those circumstances. The Nike Storm-Tread outsole has an excellent grip on wet roads. The Storm-Tread outsole is useless on ice, so spikes are recommended. The only drawback is the abysmally low level of reflectivity, which is strange for a running shoe that’s intended for the darker months. The upper does a respectable job of blocking the water and cold, and the outsole grip is a cut above the rest. Though competing brands like adidas, Asics, Brooks, and Saucony sell winterized versions of their popular models, the Nike Pegasus 38 Shield is our favorite winter-running shoe. It’s cushioned, protective, durable, and has an accommodating fit that will take even thick wool running socks. Out of the three, the Pegasus Shield offers the best balance between different performance traits. However, that’s not always the case.įor the 2021-22 season, Nike sells three Shield models – the Pegasus 38, React Miler 2, and Winflo 8. Lastly, the Shield collection is supposed to be more reflective than a comparable non-Shield shoe. The outsole material and geometry are also repurposed to meet the traction requirements for wet roads. Two, the mesh shell is supposed to keep the feet warm during the colder months. Ironically, reflectivity (represented by the graphic that resembles squiggly germs) is nearly absent on the Pegasus Shield.įirstly, the upper is highly water-resistant. However, if you’re looking for the same Pegasus durability and responsiveness without the price tag, the Pegasus 38 is still a decent choice for your training miles.The graphic on the footbed is suggestive of Nike Shield’s feature-set. Again, this is a bigger, cool shoe and has enough durability to last for miles. It is still certainly best suited for easy miles but has enough snap to handle faster sessions, although faster runners may find it a bit heavy. Compared to similar shoes in its price range, such as New Balance 1080v12, or Brooks Glycerin 19For a cheaper price, I’d argue, you’ll get a more versatile Pegasus shoe. Nike Pegasus 39 vs Nike Pegasus 38: Which is better for you?ĭuring testing, I found the Pegasus 39 to be a significant improvement over the Pegasus 38 both in terms of fitness and feel underfoot. I’m not sure if this is due to the lighter weight or the second Zoom Air unit, but it’s more springy underfoot. When it comes to feeling underfoot, the Pegasus 39 feels even more exciting. ![]() Having said that, I would argue that a stiffer midsole gives the shoe a certain versatility you want from an everyday running shoe. Neither shoe feels excessively underfoot – the React foam isn’t particularly soft, especially compared to the Zoom X foam used in Invincible Nike. If you’re looking for a quality everyday running shoe without a price tag, choose the Pegasus 38. However, even at $120, the shoe is cheaper than other popular everyday running shoes like adidas Ultraboost 22and the New Balance 1080v12. ![]() By contrast, since the Nike Pegasus 38 is now a stock in recent seasons, it will likely be on sale at a number of different retailers. ![]() Since the Pegasus 39 launched in April 2022 and is still not widely available, you’re unlikely to find it discounted anywhere just yet.
